Last Thursday of the year 2011 Polish missionaries and volunteers working around the Lake Victoria gathered together in Kahangala, some 55 kilometers off Mwanza, on the highway Mwanza-Musoma, at Polish Resurrection Fathers mission, to celebrate Christmas in Polish home style...
Out of some 25 members of this loose community (we come from different regions of Poland, from different dioceses, congregations, organizations, some of us are just Polish expatriates employed by Tanzanian government), some 18 (if I counted correctly) were able to attend.
After the Holy Mass in the chapel, in Polish language and with Polish songs (Father Tomasz and Father Maciej played guitars and led singing), we proceeded with Polish Vigil style supper. Some of us brought Polish Christmas foods, Father Tomasz brought his musical equipment.
We broke 'oplatki', wished each other special wishes taking time to share and connect intensely, then we sat at the table, sharing barszcz with uszka z grzybami, pierogi, all kinds of salads, foods and cakes. We ate and chatted singing from time to time Polish carols from special carol song books prepared for each one of us by Agata, the volunteer of Foundation Kiabakari.
It was so great to meet together and get to know each other better. What a fantastic thought it was to start anew this kind of meetings of our Polish community! Thank you Father Janusz Machota, who first spoke about it.
The party went well into the night, finishing around 3am.
Here are some photos from the day:
