I Fell For Her

Yes, I did. She is such a unique presentation of the truth about Mary of Nazareth, a humble, noble, gentle, beautiful girl from that despised by Jews and others town...

When I entered the chapel in the provincial house of Sisters of the Resurrection in Chicago, my eyes were immediately drawn to Her. The statue of Our Lady as a young girl in an ordinary attire, in this unique pose of humble acceptance of God's Will presented to Her by Archangel Gabriel, as if She was saying - 'Who? Me?!' - mesmerized me completely and still does...

I think this statue will remain as one of my favorite ones in the entire world... Imagine, how much dissent it caused among sisters there, who differed in their opinions, as many of them were used to more canonical, typical statues or representations of the beauty of Our Lady. But eventually, the majority agreed and the statue stayed in the chapel...

I took a few pictures to have them with me and look from time to time, wondering about the mystery of this brave Jewish girl from Nazareth who became the Mother of God... The ordinary looks of Our Lady in this statue, presented as a gentle, delicate girl, beautiful and charming, without halo and crown and royal garments, but dressed as a typical girl of those times - attract me big time and make my heart melt. This statue speaks volumes as regards to the reality of life of Our Lady as She was there in Nazareth... I think we tend to forget about this and prefer to see Our Lady already in Heaven.

This statue, if I am concerned, is a theme for a full blown retreat on the mystery of Mary of Nazareth. Someday I think I will do this or write a book on this topic - as I feel and see it...

But today just a few pictures to share with you my fondness for this statue and through it - my love for Mary of Nazareth...
