A few days ago a man came to my office asking for advice what to do in a case when the family members of a deceased elder decided to renovate his grave paying their respect to him. The man was buried 28 years ago in a family plot adjacent to the Divine Mercy Hill, just on the other side of the road that runs around the hill...
We agreed upon the short ceremony of the blessing of the newly renovated grave of the family ancestor along with the two Holy Masses, one for the repose of his soul, and the second for the whole family, reunited around his grave.
The first Mass was celebrated the day before yesterday, the second I'll celebrate this afternoon as the conclusion of regular Friday recollection day, and the blessing of the grave was done this morning.
I was impressed with the devotion of the family members to their ancestor, the importance they gave to the fact of the family reunion and the respect they paid to me and the service I rendered to them. It's a pity that not every family around here follows the suit, but rather they tend to forget about the places of burial of their ancestors, as I can see here and there...but not only this - very few people come here to ask for Masses for their deceased family members or remembering the dates of their death or other important family events...Sad.
The broken connection between our lives and the Eucharist makes our life such a different experience in this world...
