Hard Blow

This is beyond our comprehension - us, missionaries and volunteers in Tanzania, that the government decided to suddenly rise residence permit class C fee (this is our class) more than any other class of expatriates, even those who come to work here and get paid for it. Our fee jumped more than four times from 120$ per two year permit up to 500$. Just like that. This is a bigger jump in fees than for any other class of foreigners working in Tanzania...

As missionaries and volunteers we offer a free service to the least privileged sections of the people of Tanzania. We do not get paid for this by the same people nor the government. Still, most of us go around the world looking for funds and help for various development projects and encourage help from foreign sponsors. All this selflessly.

Personally, I feel deeply disappointed that instead of some kind of official recognition from the government - for help we offer and service, we get hit by this hard blow. Some people consider leaving the country, once their residence permits expire, as this news is hard to swallow, understand and accept.

The link to the article dealing with the new fees breakdown is here.
