Summer School

Yet another valuable addition to the collage of activities and inputs of our volunteers to the common effort to bring Divine Mercy towards a needy human being and the human being to Divine Mercy...

The third pillar of Divine Mercy vision in Kiabakari has taken a new wonderful image yesterday, when Marianna and Marija opened up officially MareMare Summer School for kids in Kiabakari, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, social status of their parents and their location...

I announced their great initiative on Sunday and yesterday afternoon, after we came back from Musoma (stationary shopping for the summer school, thanks to the great gift of 200 euros of Marija, Marija's mother-in-law, as I was told by M&M), 117 children came up with their parents and guardians to get enrolled in the summer school.

Look how great a thing one can do for least privileged with such a magnanimous gift of one person. And the amount given is note beyond the capacity of many of us. Today more children will come as the news spread, and I expect around 300 children at least by the end of the week. Imagine, for less than a euro a month, a child can be happy and get a professional care, tuition, learn through songs, games, plays and creative activities - during one month summer school.

This is of course possible because of the huge hearts of Marianna and Marija and their selfless love of children.

I feel overwhelmed with emotions and happiness...

And what is more important still, M&M want to prepare a guidelines or  - if you will - a handbook for volunteers in Kiabakari, so this initiative may continue and grow. To have two schools - during winter (which is now in Eastern Africa) and in summer (mid-December till mid-January) plus some extra evening activities throughout the whole year when volunteers are here - this would help immensely our children in their skills, talents and education, behavioral change and social life.

I am sure that many of us reading this will wish to get onboard of this program which will be monitored by Foundation Kiabakari - throug volunteerism first of all and through donations, so we have fully equipped summer and winter school programs, and we may also provide some basic food and water for kids while they are here.

This program, I firmly hope, will develop gradually into something bigger which will allow all kids and youth of Kiabakari to spend valuable time in afternoons during the school periods and days during holidays and breaks, taking them off streets and hazards, dangers of drugs, alcohol and so forth... With playgrounds, rooms for various sports, vocational, cultural activities and courses - we will provide a magnet that will draw kids and youth to this center and give them something really valuable in their lives...

Yesterday Marianna and Marija made a first important step in journey to this reality.... I am deeply grateful for their initiative and commend it to all of you! Well done!
